Innovation fatigue
I'm suffering from Innovation fatigue.
All the book launches, fastidious processes and sales pitches have turned something that was once a rebellion against pointlessness into yet another excuse to play top-trumps with our opinions.
Depending on what you innovate upon, for whom, how you spin the story and who reads it makes you either a philanthropist or one of the bad guys.
Regardless, the desire to create something new which has a positive effect on someone (anyone) remains the same.
With the mainstreaming of hackable services around data, connectivity, micro-tasking and action networks, community grassroots movements are creating new, better and less wasteful ways of running society.
But it's not all about social good; even advertising - with its talk of products rather than campaigns - is aboard the innovation train.
This common purpose, even if motivations differ, brings with it a cumulative betterness for the world... so maybe I'll give Innovation a second chance, for now.
